How to Cook Basmati Rice
I never thought that i will share a post for cooking rice, even though i have a post for cooking rice for biryani. But one day when i was making fried rice, i happened to take some pictures of the rice which i made for that. I loved the picture a lot, i just want to share a post using that picture. And also i got mails from viewers asking me how i cook my rice for fried rice. So i thought this post will be useful.
Ingredients for How to Cook Basmati Rice
- Basmati Rice - 1 cup
- Salt - ½ tsp to ¾ tsp
- Water - 1.5 cup
Instructions for How to Cook Basmati Rice
- Take rice in a bowl and wash it really well with different changes of water. Now take it in a bowl and cover with water..
- Let it soak for a minimum of 15 mins, you can soak it up to 1 hour max.
- Now drain the rice, take it in a sauce pan. Cover with 1.5 cup of water, add some salt and mix well.
- Bring this to a boil, cover the pot and simmer to the lowest flame. Cook this for 12 to 15 mins by which time the rice must have absorbed all the water.
- Now open it and fluff it with a fork. Cover the pot again and leave to sit for 15 mins.
- Now you can fluff it and serve or use in your cooking.

Tips & Tricks
- For making dum biryani add 1 cup water to 1 cup rice. Since you will be cooking it again during the dum process.
- For making fried rice add 1.5 cup of water to 1 cup rice.
- For serving it with curries, you can follow this proportion itself, but if you want little more softer rice, you can add upto 1 ¾ cup of water to 1 cup of rice. You can even add 2 cup of water to 1 cup of rice as well.
