    Green Gram Curry Recipe with step by step pictures. Delicious creamy pacha payaru curry which taste amazing with puttu, idiyappam and appam.

     
     

    Green Gram Curry Recipe

    A simple protein rich curry which is best with hot roti or rice. I love the spices which goes in this curry. That makes this simple dish even more tasty. So hope you all like it and let me know what you think.

    Ingredients for Green Gram Curry

    • Green Gram / Pacha payaru-1 cup
    • Onion-1 chopped
    • Tomato-2 chopped
    • Coriander powder / Malli podi-1 tblspn
    • Red Chilli powder -1tsp
    • Turmeric powder / Manjal podi-1 tsp
    • Garam masala powder-1 tsp
    • Cumin seeds / Jeerakam-1 tsp
    • Ghee-1 tblspn
    • Oil-1 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar -1 tsp
    • Coriander leaves/Cilantro for garnishing

    How to Make Green Gram Curry

    1. Pressure cook dal till completely cooked. If you press it with your fingers it should get mashed.
    2. Heat oil and ghee in a kadai. Crackle some cumin seeds.
    3. Add in onions and cook till golden.
    4. Add in all spice powders and mix well.
    5. Throw in the tomatoes and cook till mushy..Add required amount of water and bring that to boil.
    6. Add in the cooked dal and mix well.
    7. Season with salt and sugar. Simmer this for 10 mins.
    8. Garnish with cilantro and serve with roti or rice.

    Take all your ingredients

     

    Take your green gram dal
     
     
    Pressure cook till mushy

     

    Crackle cumin seeds
     
     
    add in onions

     

    and throw in spice powders
     
     
    Add more spices

     

    throw in tomatoes
     
     
    Mix well
     
     
    Cover and cook till
     
     
    Mushy
     
     
    Add some water
     
     
    Now goes the cooked dal

     

    Season with some salt and sugar

     

    Simmer for a while

     

    Garnish with cilantro

        for cooking green gram. Take 1 cup of green gram in a cooker, add three cups of water and cook for 3 whistle. Simmer for 10 mins. Then turn off the heat and let the pressure go all by itself

      hi aarthi..i followed your receipe n it came out tasty..:-) just one query...my mom n mother in law asked me to soak green gram for about n hour n then go for boiling....you did not mention anything like that..kindly clarify 🙂

        if u use presure cooker, no need to soak. but if you want, you can just soak it and use
