Aloo mutter (also spelled aloo mattar or aloo matar) is a North Indian dish from the Indian subcontinent made with potatoes (Aloo) and peas (matar) in a spiced creamy tomato sauce. Its a vegetarian meal. In general, the sauce is made with garlic, ginger, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, cumin seeds, and other spices.

Aloo means potato in Hindi, and matar means green peas. This is one of the most popular side dishes made all over India. Make sure to check my 120 Vegetarian Sidedishes for Chapati, Roti, Pulao.

You can customize aloo matar into hundreds of recipe. In this blog post, I have shared two ways of making aloo matar. We prefer the first version with onions, garlic which is more flavourful. But if you don't eat onion and garlic, you can check my variation recipe.

Great recipe but I dont think its Jain. We, Jains, dont use root veggies. So an authentic version will be without ginger and raw banana instead of potato.
